Since 2016 my partner, Whitney Gecker, and I have made quilts for babies born to friends and family. The meditative process of designing, piecing and stitching a quilt offers time to reflect on the life about to begin and our relationships with parents and their children. Each quilt is particular to the moment in time it is created- what materials we have available, what we imagine for the child, what visual ideas feel most compelling. Individually, I revisit each set of scraps from those quilts and turn them into smaller textile pieces. These pieces serve as a companion to the original- the other side of the coin, the experimental to the ordered, the aesthetic to the utilitarian.
